I have just installed Version 1907 (Build 11901.20176) (from Version 1906 (Build 11727.20230))  and the first thing I noticed was that my Receent files list and, more importantly to me, my Pinned List had been trashed, I’ve not seen any other references to this problem, and so I upgraded Office 365 on my old laptop, and received the same result. Well, except that it had retained one file in the recent files list, seemingly at random.
    Anybody else seen this problem?

Hello @barcud, Similar issue on my Win 8.1 laptop in July 2018; randomly lost my pinned items from Office jump lists in my task bar. It first happenned after a recent update for Office. At the time, was running Office 2016 (and also Office 2013). I had taskbar shortcuts to both versions. Tried a variety of troubleshooting which did not seem to help (sfc, dism, check disk, run CCleaner, ect) At one point, the problem was only happening with my Excel shortcut. What seemed to fix it for me was to delete all Office icons from the taskbar, reboot, re-create taskbar shortcuts, and remake the pinned items.

Hi @Sueska, that sounds worse than my situation. The lists I lost were entirely within Office programs like Excel where I use the pinned list all the time. It didn’t take too long to reconstruct it using Excel on my old laptop (I then trashed that pinned list when I updated it too).

So far it has just occurred the once (on each machine) but I’ll be looking out for problems such as you have had.

Win 7 here – 8 and 10 may be different.

      My pinned programs are at
      C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned

Within ‘User Pinned’ are three folders:
      – ImplicitAppShortcuts, dating to when Windows was installed, but empty
      – StartMenu – shortcuts to Character Map, Snipping Tool
      – TaskBar – shortcuts to Firefox, Internet Explorer, KEDIT for Windows, Thunderbird, Windows Explorer

It might be useful to copy the ‘User Pinned‘ folder to (perhaps) User Pinned.bak;  or perhaps the individual sub-folders. Then, if/when shortcuts mysteriously disappear, one can copy back the missing components.

      Recent Items are at
      C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent
but this is a pretty dynamic folder and it will repopulate quickly.

      Well,

      Who’d have thought it!

This morning, all my Excel pinned items were reinstated, meaning I now had two entries (with different dates) for each one.

Thanks very much Mr Microsoft, you do indeed take away and give. Sorry, should that be give and take away! Ha Ha Ha .
