VBA Editor (Wind 2000, Office XP)

I am trying to get the VBA Editor to dock the Project Explorer and Project Properties windows to one of the sides in the VBA window by marking the various windows dockable in Tools/Options, but my VBA Editor will not dock the various windows.

I used have this nicely set up, but after I rezied a window it suddenly turned out of my control.

Is there any setting I have missed?

A couple years ago I managed to really mess up my VBE. Somehow I managed to reset it to the factory spec and then was able to adjust from there. I don’t remember how I did that… but that is what I would suggest doing.

My fat fingers have done the same thing.

Mt recollection is that I just reset the Dock key in.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVBA6.0Common]

If yiu want to try this, first back up the key before modifying th eregistry.

This is a problem in Office 2000 (I think that it is a bug). I wrote a post describing how to recover from this back in March of 2001 which was made a Star Post. Unfortunately, the post has been lost because of the lounge’s server resource problems. I no longer have the post, but will try to remember how to do this. The procedure below assumes that you want the windows on the left of the VBE window where they would be by default.

First, select the window that you want to end up on the bottom. Now, put the cursor at the right edge of the title bar, left click, and drag the window slowly to the left edge of the VBE window until the window outline changes into a long vertical outline (this will probably occur when the outline is about half off the screen. Release the mouse button to drop the window. The window should now be docked at the left edge of the screen.

Second, Select the other window, and again put the cursor at the right end of the title bar, left click and drag slowly until the window outline becomes a long verticle outline. Drop the window. The two windows will now probably be docked side by side.

Third, put the cursor at the right side of the title bar of the second window, left click and drag slowly to the left until the outline again changes to a verticle outline. Drop the window again. The two windows should now be docked one on top of the other with the second one very small at the bottom of the screen.

Fourth, move the cursor between the two windows until it changed into a double arrow pointing up and down. Drag until you get the windows the size that you want them.

I got it working eventually. It was difficult the second step; to get the two bars on top of each other. I had to drop it while on top of the first one, not bringing it to the far left end when it again became a vertical bar.

If you accidentally undock one of the windows, the quickest way to redock it is to double click the titlebar of the undocked window.

The double click will redock it in the last spot it was docked in.

I got it working eventually. It was difficult the second step; to get the two bars on top of each other. I had to drop it while on top of the first one, not bringing it to the far left end when it again became a vertical bar.
