Vanishing Desktop (SP3)

Recently “we” keep losing our desktop (this is a shared machine more than ever!).
It’s OK switching between open applications via Task Manager, but I don’t know how to open others, short of rebooting.
Is there a keystroke sequence that will restore the desktop?

Have you tried:

1. Right-click on your desktop.

2. Select Arrange Icons By.

3. Select Show Desktop Icons

or is it the “new” XP and Vista bug that has become prevalent after the last security update?

MAYbe its due to that bug – we are certainly up-to-date.

That so called “bug” turned out to be caused by malware. See Microsoft: November security updates are fine | Security – CNET News which also has a link to an updated blog entry from the company who publicized the mess oiriginally.
