I’m in the process of finalizing the setup of a new PC.  I set a 60 day hold on major updates a couple of days ago.  I also had a hold on basic updates for 7 more days.  This afternoon I was working on some of the miscellaneous setup activities when I detected high activity on the HD.  When I checked, I saw that the 2004 update had been downloaded and was installing.  There were also 14 “regular” updates that were installed.

When I checked update history it indicates updates are paused and will resume on 9/15/2o2o.  Is there any way that I can prevent the 2004 from completing installation?

You need to let it finish the installation, reboot and then revert.

Exactly how did you put updates on hold? Can you post screenshots? (Save as PNG and attach to your post.

      cheers, Paul

I have attached a screen shot of the schedule settings.  By “revert” do you mean uninstalling the update?

You have 10 days after an upgrade (if you haven’t done Disk Cleanup) to roll back to the previous version.

I posted 2 replies yesterday but have no responses .  Can’t get monitor out of sleep mode. Can I shut down PC and reboot.  What will that do to the download process?

I don’t see you have any other choice.
Worst case, the install will fail and it should roll back to the previous version. If that happens, best to set the monitor to sleep NEVER before you try again – at least until after the update.

It may be that the feature update period of 60 days overrides the pause. We have plenty of reports of unexpected upgrades.

I followed the suggestion to let the installs progress. This morning I selected resume downloads. A few Intel updates downloaded along with the 1909 cumulative update. Then the 2004 began to download. I watched it for a few minuets until it reached 46% .Then I did some other tasks via few minuets .When I next looked at my monitor the screen was black.  It has now been over 2 hours with no apparent activity.  I’m not familiar with the activities associated with these major updates, but it appears to me that something very wrong has happened.

        Suggestions, recommendations??????  HELP!

Did you PC go to sleep or the monitor turn off? What happens if you shake the mouse or hit the Return key?

          • #2295510

I have tried the return key and pressing the mouse button, nothing happens.  The monitor is on.  I had a problem with this monitor when I bought it a few years ago.  It would not come out of sleep.  That’s why I set it to never sleep. I When I set up the new PC I set the monitor to never sleep.

What would you expect to happen if I used the lower button on the PC to shut it down?

I have determined that the monitor is in sleep mode by turning it off and then back on again . When I turned it on the sleep mode box was on briefly and then the screen went black again.  Need to know how to get it out of sleep mode .  Moving the mouse did not work.

Power off and on again. Hold the power button down for 5 seconds if it doesn’t respond to a quick press.

              cheers, Paul
