I was interested in an efficient way to create a return hyperlink to
a table of contents (e.g. on page 2 of my document) from the bottom
of every subsequent page of my document (e.g. 250 pages long).

The only current way I know is to create a bookmark at the
location of the table of contents title and THEN add a hyperlink to
reference the bookmark at every single following page
    (i.e. add 250 hyperlinks).

I’ve tried to place a hyperlink in the header and footer area,
but unfortunately I have to double-click to activate the edit
header/footer window, and then click the hyperlink.

Could anyone give me suggestions on how this can
    be accomplished?

This could be accomplished with a custom toolbar.
Create and attach the toolbar to the document.
The toolbar has one 1 button that activates a macro that performs a goto to the table of contents.

A bit messy I know but it will mean that yo do not have to edit 250 pages.HIH

Is it possible to make a custom toolbar appear at a fixed point on the document? Say centred at the very top of the page?

I’ve tried using them but they always seem to appear randomly – usually over the text that you want the user to read.

One *good* solution that might work well is to create a button using the VB Controls toobar and assign a macro to go to the ToC bookmark to the button. Then, format the button to appear, say, right-aligned or centred, to move with text and with placement expressed in absolute terms from Top of page. Then copy this button to clipboard, and then create and run a macro to Find Next Manual Page Break (^m), move one para down, Paste clipboard contents and so on till End of File.

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
