bbearren someone on the the internet made userchrome.css for me I am trying I can not seem to get a hold of him am looking for someone to update features for me am looking for someone who can here
Paul I am not not technical I see my current css is in a zip file tell me how to post it here please it is very important
You appear to have some alternative icons and colours via those CSS changes.
What do you now want to change?
It would be good to have some screenshots of the things you want to change. You can do this by opening Windows Snipping Tool (it is also called Snip n Sketch), making a new rectangular snip and saving the snip as a PNG, then upload it (them) in a post.
You seem more than capable so installation of the changes should present no issues for you.
cheers, Paul
Paul I need everything updated in userchrome.css I am not technical Example Find in this page feature dose not work in Firefox if you can please tell me what do I need to send you if what I posted here was not enough in the zip file do you want more info ? please tell me ? this is very important to me
Applying the changes in the markrh-aris148-chrome.zip results in some pretty ugly items – see screenshot – and doesn’t give you a screen that looks like the one you posted in #2304501.
I can’t see a way to add the icon names. Do you have any extensions installed?
Type “about:extensions” in the address bar.
cheers, Paul
This is an old version of Aris’ CSS mods for Firefox, which are meant to replace the functionality (to the degree they can) of Aris’ classic extension, Classic Theme Restorer. You can download the whole thing at the URL in the file and uncomment the lines in the userChrome.css file to enable those bits.
The version of the custom CSS is quite old, so it is not surprising that things do not work as expected. Mozilla’s decision to eliminate extensions that can modify the UI has made this a great deal harder for anyone who doesn’t like what Firefox looks like in the post Quantum era. It used to be that you could use CTR and simply change everything you want via the menus, and generally it would just keep working from then on. Aris would have to keep fixing the addon to deal with Mozilla’s changes, but the end user wouldn’t have to.
Now Aris has to keep releasing new versions of the custom stylesheets to cope with all of Mozilla’s changes, and the end user has to go through them and modify them to fit each time too, a much more involved and annoying process. That’s still better than the alternative, of course, where these kinds of modifications are simply impossible, which is probably going to happen eventually, given Mozilla’ record thus far.
I’ve attempted to port your customizations to a newer version of the Aris custom CSS, though some things didn’t have direct equivalents. Some things will be different, most likely, but it should be closer to what you expect, at least. Try out the zip I attached here and see how it works for you!
Note that this is just the custom userChrome.css, not the userContent.css that was in the chrome directory.

Ascar and Paul if this is userChrome.css not the userContent.css that was in the chrome directory. Will you make a userContent.css for me ? I am not technical how do I install chrome-1.zip ? or do I wait for you to make userContent.css to install both ?
Just extract the .zip into your chrome folder in the Mozilla profile. You’ve already backed up the old chrome folder (it’s in the zip file you uploaded), so you can have it overwrite the existing files in there. The old userContent.css will remain and keep working, if it is indeed working.

I would love to try to help with this, but I must admit that I have no idea at all what the problem is. Can you please explain a bit what you want to have happening and what is actually happening instead?

the Find in this page in Firefox dose not working
does not say just WHAT is not working as expected. I just did the [ Ctrl+F ] to invoke Find. Here is the result. This strip is at the bottom of the screen. (Not shown here is the [ X ] at the right end of the strip; clicking on it removes this Find strip.)
Sportman: Are you saying that this Find strip does not appear?
Or that the strip does appear, but that when you key into the box at the left end, that there is no Find action?
Or that you cannot key in anything?
Ascaris and Paul let me give you the detail after Firefox 57 stop the features I was going to forums to try to get someone to make me userChrome.css, and userContent.css I did his name Mark Headrick I can give you his site address he even installed for me himself via TeamViewer for me I am a disabled person and not computer savy he said he would update everything for me I have not heard from him in months hope you would update this for me or maybe contact him to know his setup and then set it up for me I know things have to be updated features
the Find in this page in Firefox dose not working on mine go to Edit I type Find in this page to find nothing happens hope you can see and help me this is important to me
The chrome-1.zip file I uploaded was the attempt at the fixed version of the userChrome.css setup you uploaded. I don’t know what it is you are trying to accomplish with the custom stylesheets, but I was able to look at the ones you had and see that they were an old version of Aris’ custom stylesheets for Firefox, which I was familiar with as I use them in my own Firefox installation. I tried to port over the bits I found enabled in your custom stylesheet, but without knowing what the problem you have with the original Firefox is, it’s hard to know what you are actually requesting here.
As far as the Find in Page thing… are you saying that the Find in Page bar does not appear when you invoke it via the menu? I just tried it in the chrome-1.zip file I uploaded, and it works fine.
Firefox 57 changed a lot of things, as that was the first release in the Quantum series. One of the things it removed was the ability to use the classic addons, like Classic Theme Restorer, which used to provide the functionality that the custom CSS now does. It also introduced a new UI.
What is the problem you had with Firefox 57 when that arrived back then? Or, in other words, what would be the problem you have with Firefox right now if you removed the custom .css and went back to the default appearance?

Ascaris and Paul yes when I invoke Find, and “nothing happens”, I am saying that the strip does not appear at the bottom of the screen or top
Things which someone made custom for me are
Tezt bigger in search and text bigger when adding folder
yellow folders
which I asked him to do for me he
also added on mine old look
Classic Theme Restorer, which used to provide the functionality that the custom CSS yes like you said also introduced a new UI.I think
Here is how Firefox looks for me with the chrome-1.zip custom CSS. I had it open Find in Page, which you can see at the top of the content window.
Is this the appearance you want? This is your old version of Aris’ custom CSS for Firefox ported to a newer version, more or less. There were a few things that did not have direct equivalents.

I meant that I tried to port everything over from the old userChrome.css to the new one that Aris released. The main userChrome.css file is just a list of a bunch of other files that do the actual work of restyling Firefox. Most files in the list from your older version still exist now in the newer one, but not all of them. All that means is that it might vary in appearance a bit from what you remember.
If that appearance in the screenshot is good, all you need to do is extract chrome-1.zip to your Firefox profile’s ‘chrome’ folder and restart Firefox. You were able to zip up the chrome folder and upload it, so you already have some familiarity with zip files. It’s the same thing, but in reverse.

Ascaris and Paul here is some idea how my configuration was set up this older version the person has who set it up for me this is his site
A – What version of Firefox do you have? To find out:
[Menu Bar]: Help > About Firefox
Write down (on a piece of paper) the Version number.
READ ALL the following items before you do this next step —
B – Another menu item under Help is [Restart with Add-ons Disabled].
When you click on this, Firefox will close {so don’t have open any other tabs in Firefox, because you will lose them}, and Firefox will then Restart. It will be in what is called ‘Safe Mode’.
C – After Firefox comes back up, come back here to AskWoody, and enter your replies:
– give us the Firefox Version number that you wrote down in (A) above.
– and answer the question in (D) below.
D – Does your [ Edit > Find … ] now display the Find bar – probably at the bottom of the screen?
E – After you have posted (Submitted) the answers to the questions above (item (C) ), you may, at your option, either continue to work with Firefox as it is in Safe Mode, or close out of Firefox. When you start Firefox again, it will be back to the way that you are used to – ‘Normal Mode’.
You should have removed the old user chrome files and folders and replaced them with the ones provided by Ascaris above.
cheers, Paul
Ascaris and Paul if I removed the old user chrome files and folders and replaced them with the ones provided by Ascaris will this put back the Find in This Page feature ?
Ascaris and Paul let me please answer your questions from #2305659
What is the problem you had with Firefox 57 when that arrived back then? Or, in other words, what would be the problem you have with Firefox right now if you removed the custom .css and went back to the default appearance?
My answers
sportman, I suggest you start from scratch.
Let us know how it goes.
cheers, Paul
Ascaris and Paul I see the detailed instructions. My question is because am a disabled I have modified features which I have in the screenshots in #2306405 which are yellow bookmark men Dark header and bigger text Fonts can you modifiy thoese for me please or is it included in chrome-1.zip ?
The chrome-1.zip file has most of what you want. It was as close as I could get it with only having the original chrome directory as a reference.
I made a few more tweaks based on your screenshots, and if those are what you want it to look like, it should be good now. Please give the new version, chrome-2, a try and see if it works for you.

You already were able to take screenshots, log into this site, then write a post and put the screenshots into that. You were able to zip up and post your chrome folder too. Unzipping the chrome-2.zip into the Firefox directory is no harder than any of that, and arguably actually easier. I am sure you can do it!

Hey; im a friend of sportmans’ let me clarify a few points:
1.he doesnt have a keyboard, his disability drastically limits his movement so he generally uses a mouse with an onscreen keyboard.
What I believe he is looking for is a way to have the ‘Find in this Page’ option included in the right click context menu.
If the best thing to do is simply add the find option to the top toolbar. I’m sure he can probably get used to the extra second it takes to click that instead of just right clicking. (unless somebody happens to know an easy way to fix this, cause i dont think it has anything to do with userchrome.css )
Also I will remote in and install the chrome zip for him, for the visual changes, while I’m adding the find icon.
(Its likely that he copied the chrome.zip from the email where he originally received it, rather than from firefoxes appdata folder)
UserChrome.css is only able to change the appearance of the browser UI. It can move or hide various on-screen elements, but it can’t change how they work.
What is it that you find broken about Firefox?
As far as the text color on a given website, there are extensions that allow you to override that. Stylus allows per-site custom stylesheets, very similar to userChrome.css, only in this case they style the site content and not the browser UI. You would still need to download or create the .css for any site you want to change.
A simpler way would be to use an addon to remove the site colors. I have an addon like this that I use when any site looks illegible from a bad choice of colors or a bad combination of my chosen color for visited links and the page itself. The one I use in Firefox is “Toggle Website Colors”, currently version 2.3.0. With that, I can use the icon to toggle the predefined page colors and substitute my own colors.

You seem to be saying that the menu bar is one color and the status bar at the bottom is being shown with black lettering on black background.
Could it be that you have several thing s going on that are giving less than optimal results for what ever you do. May be try a new clean profile and see what changes you require from that.
Ascaris and Paul and Wavy the issue is with chrome-2.zip my menu bar is one color and the status bar at the bottom is being shown with black lettering on black background.you said

How do I change the status bar at the bottom is being shown with black lettering on black background.to white letters and the status bar at the bottom how do I hide it ?
It should still work fine. It was based on the same version of Aris’ custom stylesheets that I use for my own Firefox, and it is working fine with Firefox 85.

I don’t know of any videos that show the process, and I’m not using Windows, so it’s not going to look like what you are used to if I were to make screenshots.
The directions Paul has linked to should work to get you set up. If you don’t know how to do any step of the process, please ask for clarification.

Paul T apologize I am not computer savvy I have a question dose markrh-aris148-chrome.zip and your chrome-2.zip work together or are they both the same thing you use you one or use the other ?
From sportman13:
do markrh-aris148-chrome.zip and your chrome-2.zip work together or can you have one or the other ?
Paul T and Acaris can chrome-2.zip work in Waterfox Seamonkey pale moon Comodo Ice Dragon since it is like Firefox can I do this https://www.howtogeek.com/<wbr />334716/how-to-customize-<wbr />firefoxs-user-interface-with-<wbr />userchrome.css/ or which ones will work ?
Unfortunately, Mozilla has decided to mess around with the UI in Firefox yet again, and that is the source of your troubles.
There is a way to get your Firefox back to normal for now, but it will probably only last one month or so. Enter about:config into the URL bar, then enter proton into the search bar. Toggle each instance of “true” to “false” by clicking the icon to the right of each pref name, or by double clicking the pref entry itself.
That will turn off the new UI, called Proton, and bring back the old one, called Photon. That should make the old custom stylesheets work again. When Mozilla removes the ability to get rid of their awful new UI, the only solution will be to get the newest custom stylesheets from Aris-T2 and redo the whole customization setup. It may not be possible to get things the way they used to be exactly, but it should hopefully be possible to get them fairly close.
