I am running Win2K Professional SR-2. i was logged on as a user with restricted rights. I was able to go into C:Documents and Settings and go into another user’s folder, a user with administrative rights, and completely delete the contents of that folder, My Documents and all. This did not remove the user, but it did remove all that user’s data.

How could this happen? I thought Win2K was supposed to prevent a non-admin user from messing with anybody else’s data. How can I fix this? Is there some parameter I need to tweak?

If the owner changed the sharing to “Everyone” then everyone can do just waht you did.

The folders in question are not shared. (Right-click on folder, select Sharing. “Do not share this folder” is selected.

And how are the folders protected? (Right-click on folder, select Properties, select Security Tab).

There is no security tab. Only General and Sharing.

This strongly suggests that you have used the FAT file system.

FAT does not provide any file protection. If you want to be able to protect your files then you will need to convert your disk to NTFS.

That is correct. The hard disk on this machine is formatted FAT-32. Thanks for your help.
