    Hey Y’all,

I stumbled across this today when looking through my scheduled tasks:

    User-Feed-Sync
Googling says it should be safe to disable and/or delete but all the articles reference Windows versions prior to 10. Sure sounds like I should be able to trash it but we all know about unintended consequences! Anyone know for sure? 😎

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

      Hi RG,

Thank you for the reminder. Up to now I have just been disabling it (with an AutoHotkey script which disables a whole bunch of tasks) with no apparent detrimental side effects. Why should it? I don’t use *any* Microsoft browsers ever nor RSS.

I meant to revisit this by re-enabling it then watching it with Sysinternals/TechNet’s Process Monitor (ProcMon*) when it was triggered, just to see what happens (like Network, Process and Filesystem activity).

Unfortunately I just forgot… so your post was very timely.

IMO it’s always better to disable a task then re-visit it later before perhaps deleting the task completely. This is one of those tasks that I’m confident I can delete. However, I’m just going to carry out a check with ProcMon first, purely for curiousity’s sake. 🙂

      Hope this helps…

*Which reminds me of something else… ProcMon was updated 10 days ago and I haven’t yet downloaded that either. So much to do, too little time.

I update Sysinternals using a small free portable app : SysInternalsUpdater.
That way I don’t need to download multiple updates.

Follow-up: I clean installed Windows 10 20H2 whilst disconnected from the internet. A check in Task Scheduler showed no User Feed Synchronization as a task.

Next I connected and updated the device until no more updates were available. Still no User Feed Synchronization task so I don’t know what installs it or whether Microsoft have now pulled it.

Note: Windows’ Task Scheduler (with hidden tasks on view) showed 102 tasks as ‘currently enabled and have not expired’… yet NirSoft’s TaskSchedulerView shows 161 tasks with the same settings. That’s a very big difference.
