Win 10 22H2, Local account only. Offline, while prepping for MR back up, pre March updates, I used ‘disc cleanup’. Was in my local Amin acct.

However, it popped me into System>Storage. I selected Temporary files, and didn’t notice ‘Windows Update Cleanup’ was pre-selected? It proceeded? Assuming the worst, and offline, I shut down power to PC. Upon restart, it still showed a change in my storage.

Does anyone know what this means to me now? I’m still offline. What should I do? TY

    Then got this IMG_8175

    Post reboot:

This is time sensitive! Could anyone pls chime in, so I can figure out what to do re:backup and update? I must leave tmwr early am, need to deal with this tonight. TY!

PS after doing this, my Epson Eco tank went ballistic, and I’m not even online nor trying to print??!! Pc still offline.

I’m not sure I understand?  Post installing updates it will have leftovers in the windows update temp file location.

Thx Susan. I did not yet install March updates. This was from PC ‘offline’.

Look at difference between ‘Windows update Cleanup’ at 2.98 Gb 2nd pic to 3rd pic= shows NO “Windows update Cleanup” at all!

Did this wipe out.. what? My ‘winshowhide’? Why would Epson go nuts while PC still offline?

Just need to know: What happened during ‘windows update clean up’ selected, and how to safely proceed prior to going online to do the March updates (esp as a m/r backup will capture these ‘changes’, and I have NO IDEA what ‘windows update Cleanup’ means??

Did it merely wipe things I no longer need?

        Thank you!

PS seeing a completely BLACK screen, (not Blue screen of death) gave me a heartache! From simply hard restarting after the ‘Windows update cleanup’ was selected???

System is clean, rarely on it (but ensure it’s booted for a lengthy day period every 2 wks) This is beyond odd.

Windows should only clean out files it doesn’t need. If you have an image backup you can let it proceed as it wants.

As you shut it off mid-flight, I suggest you run SFC and DISM to clean up any mess you may have made, then run the cleaner again.

      cheers, Paul
