• Used Bart PE, then lost hard drive

It started with a windows startup problem on my XP Pro-3, “missing c_1252.nls”. Several searches suggested fixing it through the installation disk’s Repair/recovery, but that didn’t work. So I used Bart PE, and did a Chkdsk, which had also been recommended. It seemed to be fixing a lot more errors than I would have expected (the computer is only 2 yrs old, and handled with care). When I tried to restart it, neither Windows nor Barts now recognize any C drive. I even tried an old Symantec Recovery Disk, which says the C drive is not recognizable.

I don’t understand how Barts could do a checkdsk and then not be able to find the disk.

No, I do have an image. So—any suggestions?

    Thanks

Boot into your bios and look for some kind of “auto detect”, with regard to the hard drive.
Attempt to re-enable it, or disable it. Boot back into bios and re-enable it, preferably from a cold boot.

Is this a single drive with no partitions?

      What, specifically were those fixes?

Is it possible your HD is failing? It is not unheard of for this to happen after 2 years.
