I’ve had a Logitech USB headset for quite some time, and it worked great, but with a recent Windows 10 update the microphone no longer works and I had to switch the Input to my web-cam’s mic or the laptop’s built-in microphone.

One of the symptoms is when I first start my laptop the headset behaves like a singer’s monitor – I can hear everything the headset microphone is picking up in the headset. If I unplug the USB then plug it back in this goes away.

In Sound Settings, under Input when I choose the headset “Microphone (4-Realtek USB Audio)” the Test your microphone bar shows nothing. When I switch it to one of the other microphones it shows the blue level bar that it is picking up sound.

Troubleshoot button doesn’t actually go through a troubleshooter – just a generic MS page on troubleshooting sound with no relevant help.

Manage sound devices only gives me the option to disable one or more microphones.

Device Properties doesn’t have anything useful either.

Any suggestions? Windows 10 build 19042.746

Try a different driver for the headset.

Open Device Manager and check what driver is being used for the headset. Check the Logitech site for a more recent / different driver.

      cheers, Paul

Per LOGI: “Your Logitech USB headset doesn’t require any drivers or software, other than the default device drivers built into your operating system. Connect your headset to a USB port on your computer, and the drivers will install automatically.”

I had some microphone/webcam weirdness on the latest update, and have not bottomed it out yet. On a Lenovo All-in-One with Intel 3d camera, the internal microphone sensitivity died. I then tried an old Logitech C170 webcam, which used to work, and showed the same problem (and no option for microphone boost). If you tapped it you got a faint indication of input shown on the microphone test. I backed out the update on the Lenovo (via restore point) – and the PC refused to boot! How does ‘Restore’ always know when to foul up? I did a bare-metal restore from Server Essentials, delayed updates and will experiment further after my monthly Zoom call tomorrow… Experimentation with the C170 on other PCs indicates that MS no longer support it(?).

      Anyone else experienced issues?
