I recently had to rebuild my system from scratch after reformatting drives. Everything is working ok, but I am getting a phony USB message when I attach external hard drives. The message says the drive will perform better if I use a USB 2 port.

I have a relatively new Dell Dimension which only has USB2 ports.

One of the drives (WD Passport) is connected using a port on the front of the Dell tower and the other (old external HD – not sure who the maker is) normally goes thru a USB external Hub.

It doesn’t seem to make any difference whether the drives are connected to a Dell port or the hub.

Belarc advisor sees all USB 2 devices.

Not sure why the phony info message started popping up, and so far I don’t know anything to do except ignore it. Any ideas about what is causing this? OBTW, I am completely up to date on Win XP service packs and fixes.

      Tom,
      What does DEVICE MANAGER say?

        Tom,
        What does DEVICE MANAGER say?

Device manager shows two USB hubs – one shows everything as USB2 and the other simply shows USB hubs
