    Hi

I’ve got a problem of recent origin.
When I plug in a USB device I now get a message about the device being able to run faster if connected to a USB 2.0 hub.

I’ve checked in device manager and I do seem to have USB 2.0 enabled. There are entries for
PCI Class USB 2.o Enhanced Host Controller – driver version 2.4.0.1
    USB 2.0 Root Hub Device

As well as the standard USB 1.1

But when I connect up a device it seems to latch onto what I presume is the standard 1.1.USB Controller

How can I utiltise the USB 2 ?

    Any clues gratefully received.

It sounds as though you have both USB 2 and USB 1.

To get USB 2 speeds you will have to plug into one of the USB 2 connectors, try plugging into different sockets until the error message goes away.

I have had the same problem for several months now. My box only has USB2 on it. As far as I can tell this has not caused any problems and as far as I can tell, there has not been any speed reduction. I have 3 external drives on USB two printers, two scanners, and a label printer, along with an external USB hub to increase my ports.

When this first started, I spent a lot of time with Dell’s tech support and we ran several tests – everything checked out ok – they had no idea what was causing the error message since all of my ports on the box are USB2.

The external hub may be of the USB 1 type. I have found that MANY will cause this message.
Try removing the hub, and then connecting the different devices that were using the hub and see if you still get this message.

I have the same problem on one computer. It has an ASUS mother board P5Q, the USB arrangement is two intern hubs (which show up as USB 2.0) each with 6 USB ports all of which show up as USB 1.1

I’ve found it quicker to transfer files via Ethernet to an other machine than to use a USB hard drive directly on this machine.

Every think seems to check out, standard intel drivers, BIOS setup is for USB2.0,

      Peter.

Sounds like it might be the hub. Try plugging the device directly into the USB port on the BACK of the PC and see if that makes a difference…

That’s a little hard to do, the hub are internal on the mother board, the 12 USB ports available externally are all through the hubs.

I’d try disabling USB1.1 in the device mgr…as long as your sure you have 2.0 installed.

What is the Make and Model of this machine with these 12 built in USB connections?

Are these 12 ports connected to the two built in ports by external cables?
