I currently have a database made up of linked tables (the tables are stored on a server, the queries and reports, etc. are stored locally). I now need to import the tables into my database instead of linking them. I’ve copied all needed tables into the database…how do I make my reports, forms, queries, etc. recognize the imported tables so I can delete the linked tables? Is there a better way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated – and the sooner, the better!

Open up each form, report, and query in DESIGN VIEW and change the data source to the newly imported tables paying careful attention to the names as they are assigned.

The way I would do it, delete the linked tables, and import the ones from the server–and name (or rename) them exactly how the linked tables were named.

When I do that, I get a message that tells me I can’t delete the table without deleting its relationships, and it asks me if I want to delete them. Won’t this destroy my forms/reports/queries?

I don’t think so…go into Relationships and delete them, delete the tables, import the new tables w/same names and then recreate the relationships.

Deleting relationships do not destroy any reports, forms or queries, they still will remain as they are.
If you are not depending on the relationships when deleting records (you get the message that you can not delete a record because there is still data in related tables) then it even is not necessary to recreate the realtionships!
Just delete all the relationships, delete the linked tables and import the tables.
Your application will still work afterwards.

            However:
Your application will have a higher maintainability when you recreate the relations in your database. Also queries are easier to make then because the relations will be recognised when building a query.

You can just rename the new imported tables the same as the original tables and all should work ok – saves you the time and trouble of renaming everything in your database.
