There are numerous YouTube videos that are indicating this is legitimate to do.  It will install on older computers, successfully, and if the computer isn’t too old, and you are not doing anything to complex (eg. gaming) you should be just fine.

    See this link:

There are numerous other videos which accomplish this upgrade in slightly different variations.

Do you think this is a viable alternative?  What risks are there?

    Thanks, rick.

In the past I have had an older Surface device that was not supported to be on Windows 11.  I used a bypass technique to get it to 11 and then realized that it didn’t get offered the next feature release.  I had to thereafter manually download and install the feature release.  I need to check it to see if it gets offered 24H2.

So they will get security updates.  They may not get feature releases they are supposed to get.

Also if your RAM/CPU is designed for Windows 10, Windows 11 takes more “juice”. I don’t deploy Windows 11 systems without 32 gigs of ram, possibly more.

Old computers are old. They have a slower CPU. Depending on your RAM and what you do with that computer, there will be a difference.

Remember Vista? When you installed Vista on GOOD hardware it ran well.  When you installed it on subpar hardware it was slow and we all complained.

Another item to be aware of is Windows 11 24H2 requires a CPU that supports POPCNT and SSE 4.2 and there’s a HUGE gotcha if you use the workaround for unsupported H/W and it doesn’t!

It’ll install just fine but then the OS won’t boot (Microsoft blocks some PCs from Windows 11 24H2)

Bob Pony created a Windows 11 24H2 tester (https://t.co/4tu9S4r3vv) that can be used to verify whether an unsupported system will support 24H2 or not.

Note: it’s an ISO that needs to be burned onto a bootable USB.

I just tried it on my Asus Maximus XI Gene motherboard with an unsupported Intel i7-9700K CPU and got this result.

The easiest solution for now is FlyBy11

Just create a full image backup of your current system. Upgrade to Windows 11.
You can always restore the image in a couple of minutes.

They are covering their bits, but it doesn’t mean you have to follow their pronouncements.

looks like Microsoft has removed the Win11 upgrade info on installing Win11 on unsupported PCs:

Flyby11 still works for upgrades (Rufus for clean install).

I’m also seeing websites and YouTube videos of varying quality suggesting that Microsoft isn’t (yet) outright blocking people with Win10 PCs who are hardware-ineligible for Win11 from upgrading to Win11, but they have in the past few weeks begun making the information and the process of doing it less easy than it was a few months ago, which adds support for Susan’s concern that they may eventually cut off people who upgraded ineligible hardware.

It’s ironic but not exactly a stunning surprise that on the hand Microsoft is making it a little harder to upgrade to Win11 for those with ineligible hardware while pushing it down the throats of others who are eligible. It’s almost as if the real agenda was to sell more Surface devices and thereby get more user data for free. Naaah. Windows has always been a hardware-brand neutral OS /s.
