Upgrading Exch 5.5 to 03, installing BES?

Here’s my situation: I’m on a network that isn’t “mine”, my unit is simply a tenant on the base. We’re in an AD environment, at the 2003 functional level. This is where it gets interesting, and where I get lost. I’ve got a Server 2000 machine running Exchange 5.5. I want to upgrade that machine to Server 03 and Exchange 03, but I’m being told that I can’t. Everyone else on the network is under one specific instance of Exchange 03. Would upgrading my server cause any issues (if you can tell from the info I’ve provided)? I’m also trying to set up Blackberry Enterprise Server, but am running into issues there as well. Any ideas?
