My wife has been using NS 4.04 for a couple of years. She is heavily dependent on the e-mail functions and uses that a lot. I’d like to get her a little more current (I use IE on the same machine with Outlook as my mail client) but I’ve seen so many different problems listed with some of the NS releases, I’m unsure of what to try. I would appreciate advice from any of you that have used the various 4.x or 6.x releases on which one you would deem the most stable. Again, mail function compatibility is of most importance; page rendering problems are less critical to me. The OS she uses is still Win95.
    Thanks in advance

If your wife has only one email account and is unlikely to have more than one in the future I thoroughly recommend that you go no further than Netscape 4.7x.
I have used Netscape 4.x, Netscape 6.x and Mozilla (the prototype on which the various models of Netscape 6.x are tested). The footprint of Netscape 6.x is fairly heavy.
Extensive use of Win95 stopped for me a few years ago, and so I have not tested Netscape 6.x on it. My instinct, however, is that, if there is any stability issue, Netscape 4.7x is likely to be the winner of the two. HTH

I appreciate your feedback. But, the 4.7x versions seem to go from 4.7 to 4.79. Should I just assume the highest number is ‘best’ and go for 4.79 or are there issues that would make one of the other variations cleaner?

4.79 was the last of the Netscape 4.x builds. There appears to be no reason for you not to go for it.
