Curiosity is the only reason that I am thinking of ‘upgrading’ from Windows 10. I am a bit concerned about the things that might be missing or moved in Windows 11. My machine is supposed to be Windows 11 ready but is the general feeling at Ask Woody still to hold fire? I haven’t seen anything about it in recent newsletters. Windows 10 is working very well. Should I just wait a bit longer for at least the next big Windows 11 update?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

For me it mostly just looks a bit prettier.
As we’re only about three months away from the public release of the first Windows 11 feature update, you would probably be happier waiting for that in my opinion as it does have numerous improvements:

AskWoody PlusJuly 7, 2022 at 9:39 am #2458866Bear in mind that, bafflingly, Windows 11 still doesn’t support uncombined taskbar buttons, which really slows down productivity if you’re switching between multiple windows a lot. If you’re used to uncombined taskbar buttons, I suggest turning them combined taskbar buttons on on Windows 10 and seeing if you can get used to them before you upgrade, as that will be what you’re stuck with unless you install third party software.

AskWoody PlusJuly 7, 2022 at 10:15 am #2458877Thanks both. I think I’ll wait at least until the next big Windows 11 update before doing it. It looks as though combined taskbar buttons must be the default in Windows 10 because that’s what I seem to have. I can see that uncombined ones might be easier so I’ll look at that. If I do prefer it I may have to get the third party software you mention, Sky.
