Upgrade Android Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich

I’ve just ordered an ASUS Prime Tablet and dock which will ship with Android Honeycomb.
It will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich when it is released, probably sometime in January.
Can anyone briefly explain what the upgrade process is likely to be?
Will existing software and data be preserved?

I would think that if the upgrade is offered by ASUS, they will provide the instructions for the upgrade.

Most likely within a few days of the upgrade being made available, when you turn on your tablet it will inform you of the available update and ask you if you want to install it. That is how all of my Android phone updates have worked.

I just brought home an ASUS Eee Transformer with the optional keyboard (early birthday present). I’m already in love with it! And I can’t wait for the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S II with Android 2.3.4. It is one of the models that will receive the 4.0 upgrade. This will be my first Android upgrade so we’ll see how it goes. I suspect when I choose the upgrade will be pushed to my phone and everything will be fine.

note: I was able to fully root my Samsung Galaxy S II using this method.

Ted, I have a Samsung G2 and always assumed that any Android versions above 2.9.9.9..etc would be aimed at tablets and not reallt for smartphones. Do you have a link to whatever your info source was about being able to upgrade to 4.0 please?

BTW, for UK readers, I think that CNET’s info about rooting the G2 might be a bit more suitable (and there’s no messing about having to ‘register’). I haven’t tried it myself as I haven’t seen any apps that I want that require it but CNET is a very trustworthy source….the link is here:

Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to be the integration of both the Tablet and Smartphone sides of Android, so should work universally?
It makes sense to have just one OS to work on, instead of two side-by-side dev teams doing quasi-similar -but slightly different – programming.

Thinking of getting an HTC Wildfire (I don’t need a huge screen, but like the features) and hoping that will take ICS.

My Transformer tells my I have an update available with a briefcase appearing at the bottom of the screen, tap it and it tells you if it is an application update or firmware. Asks if you want to install it. Very simple process. Loved the upgrade from Gingerbread to Honeycomb and I await Ice Cream Sandwich. Wondering what Jelly Bean will bring?

Status update: yesterday I checked on my Asus Transformer if there were any firmware updates and it said there were. So I let it install the update and am now enjoying my Ice Cream Sandwich. Pretty nice so far. Even installed Chrome, but without the adblock addon it is pretty much unusable for most web sites.
