We use a third party software to create document numbers for all newly created document. I would like to copy this document number into the body of a template I have created. Creating a field and using bookmarks to reference this is useless since the document number changes everything a new document is created. Help!!!

Is the document number not used as the file name? That would make it so easy…

When is the document number created in relation to when a new document is created using your template? If the document number can be accessed while an AutoNew macro is running, you have a lot of options. If the document number is created when the document is first saved, you could take over the FileSaveAs command and do something there.

The document number is created when the document is first saved. What I want to do is capture that document to put in a form in the document. The form is sent to clients without the document number but I would like this document number placed in the form for internal reference when we the form is returned to us.

What is the third party software and what kind of documentation do you have for it? For example, if your SaveAs command already is customized to work with that software, it might be very simple to insert the number into the document as part of that process.
