    Hi to all
I’m still learning windows 10 and still studying and researching. It looks like win10 updated what used to be recommended updates, including drivers. I do not want win10 to update drivers, or just any recommended updates. I often wondered in windows 7 and previous versions why MS had recommended updates that it than recommended that you install. I have always installed the important updates.???? Also, does it make anyone mad but me that the description that MS gives on its updates suck!!! What arrogance MS has!! Is there a place in settings where one can control or disable win10 from just updating whatever it wants? Also, it appears a lot has changed from win 7. Can we control what is downloaded or just control when windows will download and install programs. Windows 7 had much more control where the “owner” could control his own machine way more than in windows 10.

We need to know which version of Win10 you are running: 1809?, 1903?, 1909?
And which Edition: Home? or Pro?

The answer to your questions may be different depending on that information.

The only way we know to easily control updates on W10 Home is to set your network connection to “metered” and then download and run wushowhide. Search here for more details.

Note: You need to check your network connection is still set to metered after updates, just in case…

      cheers, Paul

Well, I’ve got Win. 10 Home version 1903 (at the mo’) and I just pause updates for as long as Woody recommends. I have tried the metered connection option but found it interfered with some downloads; just pausing updates is much simpler. Works well – this way you can dodge the optional updates you may not want.

          Did you seen AKB2000016?

I have now – many thanks. I’ve only been using Win. 10 for a month and I’m still finding my way around. I suppose I’ll get my head round it eventually. I’m still missing the faithful old Win. 7 PC that died in harness (hard drive failure) just after Christmas. Losing it was like a labotomy.

Hi everyone, I couldn’t find a new member subforum, so thought I might as well make my first post here. I’m on Windows 10 1909, having upgraded from Windows 7 just over a week ago; I was slightly reluctant, but my PC needed a clean install as I hadn’t done one in ages. Since Windows 7 became EOL, I bit the bullet and upgraded, and then did a clean install following that.

I am now up and running and, actually relevant to this thread, am using Windows Update Blocker, which enables/disables the Windows Update and Windows Update Medic Service services without needing to go into services.msc every time. Simple but effective 🙂
