    Good afternoon,

Having backed up I’m looking at patching the two Windows 11 (22h2) PCs.

There are five patches that are being offered but as far as I can see do not appear on the May 2024 or June 2024 update lists as install or avoid.

    They are :-

    1)

    2024-06 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5039866); Windows 11; Updates; KB5039866; 6/25/2024; 66.35 MB; Hidden

    2)
    2024-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5039302); Updates; KB5039302; 6/28/2024; 127.97 GB; Hidden

    3)

    2024-05 .NET 6.0.31 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5039843); .NET 6.0; Security Updates; KB5039843; 5/28/2024; 81.95 MB; Hidden

    4)
    2024-05 .NET 7.0.20 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5039844); .NET 7.0; Security Updates; KB5039844; 5/28/2024; 64.58 MB; Hidden

    5)
    Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – v5.125 (KB890830); Windows 11; Update Rollups; KB890830; 6/11/2024; 69.39 MB; Hidden

Just wondered if it’s OK to install these or to hide via WUMgr software?

    Thanks in advance

    Pete

Also pretty much identical Dell machines (apart from PC one having a 256gb ssd c: drive plus 1gb 3.5 sata d: drive and the other PC having a 512gb ssd c: drive.

One is being offered 23h2 upgrade via Windows Update and the other is not. Is the 23h2 still rolling out to machines please? Just wondering what might be happening there…

      Thanks 🙂

      askwoody doesn’t recommend installing previews (1, 2)
If you are running a Windows Pro version block previews using GPEdit.

3, 4, 5 updates are ok to install.

Thanks Alex, so did 3, 4 and 5 appear on one the update lists for May and June because I couldn’t see them included?

        Kind regards

        Hi Alex5723-

Would you please note here how to block previews using gpedit? I have Win 11 Pro so have the ability to do this (and have done so in the past), but need instructions on where to go to block previews. Thank you!

      Thanks Alex,

Didn’t realise that previews were not recommended but makes perfect sense to have that policy 🙂

      KB890830

KB890830 appears almost every month. 3 & 4 are May updates.

      Thanks all

Have installed the updates excluding the Preview Updates. All appears fine on both machines.

The two .net dates dated 28th May 2024 installed with no issues but do not appear on any of the patch lists (May 2024 and June 2024). Not sure why that is and the May list is showing as updated on 28th May.

As Sheldon said the .net updates are normally shown on Susan’s lists but just not the two updates that WU offered to me. Like I said they installed just fine on my two machines,

      Thanks all 🙂

Let me investigate as that’s “4th week” releases which typically aren’t new security releases. I normally recommend .net security updates but not the non security.

You can also in the GUI ensure you do not check

Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” toggle under Settings > Windows Update.

          Thanks Susan

They were late May (28th) so not surprised to see them on the May list but when they didn’t appear on the June list too it made me a bit cautious whether to update .net or not.

          Kind regards 🙂
