update to 2004 failed reset to previous Why?

I attempted to update to the 2004 edition. left it running and went to bed. In the morning I expected the computer to be on and ready for logon. It was off. when I started it I got the message that the update had failed and it was resetting to the previous version. Any idea why this happened and what I should do now?

The computer is a Sony VAIO, Windows 10 version 1909 build 18363.959. 64 bit AMD chip.

Replies

Updates are logged and if you read the log you should be able to see what hasn’t worked.
Log file locations and description. How to analyze the logs is a link at the bottom of the article.

This happened to me on 2 PCs, worked flawlessly on a third. Eventually figured out it was a lack of disk space on the o/s drive. I freed up around 60GB and tried again – worked like a charm.
