Update retail w7pro to w10pro

I’m building a new computer and I’m wondering if I can use my retail win7x64pro (never been used) and change/upgrade to win10pro………without installing win7.   I’m thinking that when go to install win10 using the ISO file (or USB) made from the “MediaCreationTool”, the installation process will just require the win7 product key.

Am I thinking correct or all full of it ?

Yes.

You should be able to activate Windows 10 using the Windows 7 key. The Windows 7 key may not be accepted during installation but should be able to be used to activate Windows after the install.
