I have a Compaq 800mhz AMD, 256 mem. 16mb video Win 98

There are some good prices on 1.+ mhz machines on the market.
Will I really notice a difference by up grading to a 1.+ mhz machine over my 800 mhz

I assume you mean a 1 GHZ machine?
There would be some noticeable increase, but you would also have some increase in Memory to go along with it to really see something wothwhile.
Does it also include an upgrade to WinXP over 98? If so, then you should give it a serious consideration.

Two weeks ago Office Depot has a complete e-Machines 2.2GHz system for $439 after mail in rebates (Because of taxes and the such you are out about $780 up front). Last week Circut City had a similiar e-Machines for $429 after rebates. These were complete with mouse, keyboard, monitor and printer.
I am a builder and do not like e-Machines, hoever I bought the one form Office Depot to check out. It is real basic in terms of guts but I could not build a quality machine for that.

I gave up trying to make a living building and servicing PC’s and went into Network Support because there was no way I could compete with the price of machines like that. Most potential customers have no understanding of the differences between memory types, etc. They just look at the headline figures, see it comes from a big chain/brand and assume it must be good.
