I’m trying to unsubscribe to a newletter I receive on my office computer via OE. When I subscribed, I used, for example, the following email address: jdoe@universityname.edu. However, the return address is automatically changed to jdoe@mail.universityname.edu. Consequently, the newletter’s server claims that I’m not subscribed. Any solution, short of trying to contact the newletter’s writer directly?

Have you tried unsubscribing by deleting the word “mail” from jdoe@mail.universityname.edu. – it is apparent the server added the word in its mailing list.

Can’t delete “mail” from the address. It’s added automatically to our return address by our mail server, and automatic unsubscription servers respond to the “mail.universityname.edu” address. I presume “mail” is added to direct it to the mail server and separate it from the web site server.

Each list server is different, so you might need to contact the list provider. Some permit unsubscribe username@domain in the body (if you are lucky, yours does).
