I am finding numerous files in the format of “cteng_1_1_101204099977.dat” in my “Temp” folder. they will not delete indicating they are in use. i have searched the web but to date can not find out any information or their source or application. I have attached a sample. Any help in understanding their source and or which application created them would be appreciated. I am able to get rid of them manually if i boot from a Windows PE disk and access the local drive that way, but when booted normally I can not seem to get rid of them.

I am also looking for any application that would tell me details of unknow files such as which application has them locked.
    Thanks doc

If you want to attach a file with an unsupported file extension, you can zip it (using WinZip, 7-Zip, Windows XP’s compressed folders feature, etc.) and upload it as zip archive. You might want to submit it to an online scanning engine first if you think it might be malicious. Here are some sites that let you submit a file:

      AV Vendors:
      http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus%5B/url%5D

      Third party sites:
      http://www.virustotal.com/%5B/url%5D
      http://virusscan.jotti.org/%5B/url%5D

I haven’t tried any of these myself.

      doc,
Try this very useful utility used by many of us in the Lounge. Works well!

      UNLOCKER

BTW, for others that use it, this is version 1.85, XP and Vista.

I think you will find that the current version and the link you supplied is for Unlocker version 1.8.6, which I have installed.

Following Viking’s lead, if you choose to try Unlocker, the program will let you know what program is using the file

Looks like these files are related to the E-mail accounts configured under my Incredimail software. Thanks very much to the “Unlocker” software. I downloaded it and it works great. So many thanks again to all.
