    Last evening when shutting off my multi-user computer I was surprised to see that four updates were being installed. I had expected the updates to be downloaded but not installed.  A screenshot of my Control Panel settings is attached.

    Any guidance on how tto prevent my preferrances from bbeing overridden will be greatly appreciated.

      Yes, you got bit by that one.
      “Download updates but let me choose when to install” really means you get to choose when to install by choosing when you reboot or shut down. If you let the updates download, they will install on the next shutdown or reboot, unless you take action to stop it.

      The choice you need is “Search for updates but let me decide when to download and install.” That keeps them from downloading to your computer until you give the OK. If they aren’t on your computer, they cna’t install.
