I have a machine that recently had its motherboard replaced. Had to run a repair on Win2k to get it recognise hardware, but all is fine except that OE gives an error message saying “msoe.dll could not be loaded”.

I could not find an exact match on error messages in the MS knowledge base (that is, for win2k and oe6), but the gist of the help said uninstall and reinstall.

Did the uninstall, and deleted suggested entries from registry, but the reinstall is causing me grief.

I downloaded the latest version from MS. Setup seems to run fine at first, but during the time it is installing OE, it stops with a message that says “Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all applications and try running set up again.”

I cannot find any applications running. I thought I would restart machine in Safe Mode to ensure minimal other processes running, but still get the same error message.

Cant find this error msg in KB, so have come here for advice.

    Can anyone help?

I assume that you downloaded Internet Explorer 6 SP1 which includes OE 6. I don’t think that changing your MB had anything to do with this, but you may want to go into the BIOS and look around.
There is a good article on OE 6 installation problems and what to do about it HERE

Thank you for the tip of going to the Geek. The article was helpful. I still ran into problems with the reinstallation, and was ready to do a full format and restart. The last error I had was a ‘unsigned certificate’ error for OE 5, even though I was trying to install OE 6.

I went to the MS update site, and a few updates later, hey presto, off she went. Bingo!!

Thanks for your help, and aplogies for taking so long to let you know the resolution.
