I am using Access 2000 — the DB is on a shared drive. This DB is shared by myself and only one other person. The permissions/security etc are whatever is standard out-of-the-box for A2K. We perform a daily import of a text file. Yesterday, I attempted this and got the following message — “Cannot Update:Database or Object is Read-Only!”. There have been NO permission changes etc. I had the other person attempt the import and all worked fine from her PC. After checking all that I can think of — found nothing to indicate DB or any tables, queries, etc in a READ-ONLY state. This morning I had the file restored from a backup of about 2 weeks ago…thinking this may solve the problem. Not so, still I cannot import (same message) and other person can import. Can anyone give a clue as to where else to look at why this is happening.

    TIA

Have you checked if the other user is opening the database in exclusive mode?

It sounds like you might have an orphan ldb file that needs to be deleted.

I had a problem like this before and I was able to solve it by creating a new blank database and importing all the forms, queries, tables, etc. from the old db and it worked. You might give it a shot.

        An Update to my problem:
A co-worker of mine put this problem on a News Group and someone came up with a similar problem, where they changed the filename extension and all worked fine.

The file extension which we use is .STS — has worked for years on two different PC’s running the same database. I changed the .STS to .TXT and all is now ok on my pc…but the other pc works just fine using .STS.

All I can say is thank you all for your suggestions, they were all very logical.

        Final thought…..go figure.
        Thanks
