I click on sent items folder and I get a grayed out box saying “unable to display the folder.” I went to my tech people and they do not know how to fix this problem. I am using Outlook 2000 version 9 build 2711. Help!

Under options, and the Preferences tab, then Email, do you have the ‘Save message in sent folder’ checked.
If not ‘Check it’, send a message and then it should be listed.

Mary has answered a similar problem before in this thread, though your mileage may vary with COM or IMO.

I made sure that the sent item is clicked. I can do a find on the sent items folder and my email messages are there I just cannot display the folder to see them. Any other suggestions?

are you using exchange server and mailbox or a pst?

does restarting outlook fix it temperarily?

I am using pst and I brought my outlook.pst file to work and the tech person loaded on his pc and had the same problem. It does not display at all even after restarting. I just get a greyed out box (unable to display folder)and it eliminates all the elements in the tool bars except for help when I click on the sent items folder. I also checked the properties and there is nothing there out of the ordinary so I am not sure what to do.

Sounds to me that your “online”/network Sent Folder is still available in your network mailbox and your PST – personal folders file “SENT” folder is the one not visible.

Is this true? If so can you see any of your newly sent messages in the network SENT folder? Can you move any messages into that PST Sent folder?

You may also need to go to your network SENT folder and choose VIEW -> Current View -> SENT TO or Current Messages. I have seen where messages seem to “disappear” when the view is set incorrectly. We had one user change their INBOX view accidentally to VIEW -> UNREAD messages, and thought every read message was deleted.

          Good luck.

The problems I am having with the sent items folder are not at work but at home connecting with a modem. I do not have a network sent items folder.

it sounds like it got messed up. do you need to keep messages in it? if yes, try exporting the sent folder to a new pst.

start outlook using these switches till one works. start with cleanreminders and try cleanviews last.

if that doesn’t work, you can delete the sent folder and recreate it. i’ll explain how if the switches don’t work.

Clean views restored the sent items folder but wiped it clean. Is there anyway to save the emails that I have sent and restore the sent items display?

            • #520857

did you export the sent mail first? not that clean views should have wiped the messages out, but it’s a good precaution..

set the view to messages in views > current view. also, right click on the folder and check folder size. is it over a few kb?

check deleted folder too, just in case.

Things are really screwed up. I am able to get rid of the unable to display sent items folder using clean views but I cannot access the 200,000 bit plus information and then when I try again I get the grey box back with an error message telling me that I need to use the Inbox repair tool because there are errors in my pst file. Where is the inbox repair tool and will it fix it?

search for scanpst. it’s always worked for me.

how big is your pst anyway?

              Mary,

Thanks–the scan worked and I can see my files!!!!!!!!!!
