Unable to disabable prompt before saving on autosa

Hi again,

Sounds a bit tricky – I am trying to disable the “prompt before saving” feature on autosave. I disable it, close Excel, go back in, and the pesky little tick box is there again.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Replies

Whenever you open Excel it re-loads the Add-Ins, so that this option reverts to its default. I think you will need to create a VBA procedure that runs on starting Excel that changes this option. If you are new to VBA programming perhaps someone can help you with the code to do this?

Thanks for your response.

Are you implying that every setting that can be made to an addin must be reset each time you go into Excel? If so, I find this startling – this autosave addin worked fine in Excel 97 – you set it up once and that was it.

Has anyone got any other ideas?

Hi,
According to MS, this is a known bug that is cured by installing SR1/SR1A. I was hoping that a simple registry hack would work (easier than downloading and installing the Service Release!) but Excel seems to ignore it. I’ll let you know if I get it to work, otherwise I guess you’ll need to apply one of the Service Releases or learn to live with the prompt.

Are there any more known bugs with Excel 2k that we should know about? Does Woody provide such a service? Is there a book running on the number of bugs/features found??

When you’re downloading the SR there should be a nice long list of things it fixes. Then of course there’s the infamous SR2 (or is it SP2, can’t remember), which Woody has dealt with at length, and the things it fixes. Other than that I imagine there’s a steady trickle/stream/flood of bugs each day.
Having said that, I use O2k at home with no SRs and haven’t noticed any real problems, and O2k SR1 at work equally happily. What you’ll find wrong is just a matter of how you use it – I’ll probably never find a Word bug as all I do is type in it! Excel and Access I use a reasonable amount, mostly without issue. Luck of the Irish, possibly.
