As part of my New Year ‘springclean’ I am trying to get rid of unused files in several folders.
I am having trouble deleting PDF files (and ONLY PDF files) at the moment.
The message is: “The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program”.
I use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and it is not running at the time.
Sometimes a delete is successful if I hit ‘Try Again’ several times.
Sometimes a delete is successful if I change the ‘,pdf’ to say ‘.txt’ and then try again.
And then some refuse to go no matter what I do.
It seems this has only occured since upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 and is most frustrating when wanting to delete say a dozen or more files in a folder.
I am aware that I could use SAFE mode, but this is so general there must be somthing that needs resetting to allow these deletions.
Any ideas?
It does seem if you leave the deletions ‘waiting’ and close File Explorer you can then click ‘Try again’ on each delete and each one will then complete. So File Explorer is the program holding up PDF deletions?
