I’ve done this a few times, but this morning I am unable to add a user to my windows 11 install. It says the at snap-in isn’t available and to go through the control panel. But in the control panel I can’t get it to work either. How the heck do I add a user? I’m doing it as the administrator so I shouldn’t have any problem with rights.

Edit:  accounts/other users add account and I get “This snap-in may not be used with this edition of Windows…”

OK, so then how do I get it done??

      Chuck,

From an Admin Command prompt type:
      lusrmgr.msc [Enter]
      lusrmgr-msc
From the right hand pane select More Actions.

Settings, Accounts, Other users, Add account.

Settings, Accounts, Other users, Add account.

        OR

WinKey + R to open run box
        Enter ms-settings:otherusers and press Enter.
        Press Add Account

        HTH, Dana:))

        @b
and @wsdrcard , per the quote from Chuck’s OP that I included right above this sentence, he says that the “other users” technique (my terminology) doesn’t work.

It sounds as if the routine that makes the “other users” module work in the first place just refuses to run for some reason. Problem is, Chuck says that he’s trying to run it as the Administrator so permissions shouldn’t be the problem.

Any other suggestions aside from @RetiredGeek ‘s method shown above?

He says a snap-in may not be used. Settings doesn’t use a snap-in, but @RetiredGeek ‘s method does.

accounts/other users add account and I get “This snap-in may not be used with this edition of Windows…”

What Edition of Win are you using? Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise, etc?

Another way to add a user account is to run netplwiz.exe.
