I recently converted to Win2000, and have not been able to get this scanner working. It is a USB device and other USB devices (printer) is working. The cheapscates at Umax want to charge for a CD, but I found a site in the UK that has the drivers (supposedly). When it is run it acts like every thing is OK, but when I try the scanner I get a “scanner link failure” message, which sound like a USB problem. I swithced cables, and my printer works with either.

When I use device manager to update the file it keeps asking for a fie 1220.inf which I can find on my original CD and in Windowssystem32. Tried them both to no avail>

    Anybody help me?

Maybe try the UK site for the driver VistaScan 355u
Install it under an account that has administrative rights.

        Thanks for the response.
That is what I did do.
I also tried switching the USB ports as sugested in their FAQs, and ran the USB test.

        Still NG! any other thoughts?

You are on a standalone 2000 machine? Try logging in as local administrator and see if that makes any difference? Also another link: http://www.scanner-drivers.com/drivers/60/60296.htm%5B/url%5D

            Thanks Again.
Your new reference will bring up the same file as I listed above.
I am on a standalone computer and logged on with administrator rights, but still no help

              OK try this:
Contol panel | system | hardware | Device Manager Go to Imaging devices – and update driver. Select ‘Install from a specific location’ – and “I will choose the driver to install’ – Now you should have the choice of the Microsoft driver or the Umax driver – select the Umax and browse to the location where you have downloaded the driver from Umax.
