Is the Mavis Beacon software any good for improving typing speed?

I think as with any program of that type, it depends entirely on the user. I installed the program about 3 years ago (can’t remember the version number–I’ve since uninstalled it) for my teenaged son. He got bored with it, but then he’s easily bored by most things. However, I did some of the lessons myself even though I’m a capable typist, and I sort of understood why he lost interest. Improving typing speed, like any skill, takes practice. The repetitive drills work with some, but not with others.

You can try this site which guarantees to improve your typing. I only went so far as taking the test. Still 50+ wpm

In 1970 we had a couple of electives at our high school. It came down to woodwork or typing. I chose typing ’cause that’s where all the girls were. Best decision I ever made.

I had a similar experience. However, when I and another male in the class proved to be the fastest typists (all the rest were females), we both began to sense the resentment. The perpetual gender battles. Nevertheless, my taking the class was a great decision.

I work mostly with guys who are the fastest 2 finger typists on the planet! Guess it does not matter as long as the job gets done.
