I am using Word 2007. We have a document that is mostly a form with check boxes and fields users can type in when the document is protected. However, we also want to type in a field on the cover page that is in a text box. It is not working. It seems like in past versions of Word, we used frames because they were in the text layer, but it appears frames have gone away. How can we position a field on the cover page where we want it but still type in the field while protected for forms?

    Thanks!!

      Troy,

Frames are probably still available in Word 2007 if you dig for it under ‘More Commands’, but I’m wondering why you can’t access the ordinary text layer on your cover page? (because if you could, you could then use either an old-fashioned formfield, or a new-fashioned content control).

Do you have a full-page graphic covering up the entire content of the cover page? – there’s usually a way to structure the cover page content, to permit access to the text layer.
