On the subject of slow Windows Update, I noticed something highly unusual for my laptop with Windows 7. In general, on my system patched with all updates less those few related to Windows 10 upgrade only, Windows Update is fast, as fast as it should be.
However, when I did a routine WU scan with a video encoding application, VidCoder, which is a Handbrake GUI, running at the same time and taking about 90% of the CPU resources, suddenly Windows Update scanning became slow.
Which indicates that in addition to all other known factors, the CPU performance plays a very important role. This is an i7 CPU second gen which rarely runs at full speed.
