      I have added KB 4055038 security-only update to AKB2000003.

I have not seen KB 4055038 come through Windows Update for my Win7 machine as of 9:00am CST US 11/23/17.

… I have not seen KB 4055038 come through Windows Update for my Win7 machine as of 9:00am CST US 11/23/17.

My thinking is that, unless WU detects you have any of the affected Epson drivers on your system (indicating you have an affected printer), you might not be offered the update by WU. The KB article is pretty specific as to which specific types of Epson printers it’s for. Googling the SIDM term for Epson reveals a rather short list of a total of 16 printer models, for example, although those may be still in widespread use by businesses who can’t convert them to laser or inkjet for a variety of reasons.

Remember, when MS first acknowledged the bug, they said they’d been in contact with Epson already and had been able to determine it wasn’t a problem with the Epson drivers. So, therefore, I believe MS knows exactly which drivers are affected, and can use that as a detection mechanism for the patch. (Fingers and toes crossed for those affected  🙂 )

        PKCano,

On 11/21 I received it as an optional italicized & unchecked update for my Windows 7 x64 machine.

      typo – KB 4055254 brings 1703 to build 729 (not 726)

As I stated in the above message, #14717 : On 11/21 I received KB4055038 as an optional italicized & unchecked update for my Windows 7 x64 machine.

As of this morning it seems that Microsoft has chosen to remove KB4055038 from my window updates… I checked the Microsoft Catalog and found that  it’s still being offered there.

KB4055038 is now metadata-superseded by the Windows preview monthly rollups that were released yesterday. If you want to see it again in Windows Update, then hide the November Windows preview monthly rollup, and check for updates again.

MrBrian you are  100% correct… Not having read your reply I went ahead and hid the November Windows preview monthly rollup, and sure enough KB4055038 had returned to Windows Update. Again as an, optional italicized & unchecked update.

          Thanks for the heads up.

            You’re welcome :).

If you have “give me recommended updates […]” unticked, then Recommended updates always appear in the Optional tab italicized and unticked.
