I have been given a scanned file of an A5 booklet. There are 74 pages. The scanning has been done two pages at a time onto an A4 sheet in landscape mode. That is pages 2 & 3, 4 & 5, 6 & 7 and so on are on one page.

I need to change the file to single A4 pages in portrait mode. Other than copy & paste one page at a time is there a more elegant way of achieving this need?

How is the text in the scanned document organized? As “normal” text in the document, or in text boxes? If the latter, are there 2 text boxes on each A4 page, or more? The more specific you are, the more specific a reply can be.

I had not realised that the point you raise could be significant. There are no text boxes & the text is scanned into the file as “normal”. There are a few tables & these are also perfectly “normal”. Whoever scanned it the result is quite good. I have a copy of the original & inevitably there are errors but I dealing with these using the spell checker & by proof reading.

What happens if you select Format | Columns…, set the number of columns to 1 and apply this to the entire document, next select File | Page Setup…, and select Portrait layout and apply that to the entire document?
You may have to insert page breaks (Ctrl+Enter), but that is much less troublesome than copying and pasting pages.

This question is highly dependent on the OCR software you are using and you would get a better answer in a forum that addresses this topic. You should be able to tell your OCR software that the document is layed out in two columns and it should recoginse this layout without any problems.

Once it has been turned back into text, the Wordies here can be of assistance.

The scanning has been done elsewhere & I have no information about how it was done. However the file is in MS Word format & taking Hans point the text is “normal”. I can edit, spell check or perform any other Word function I choose to apply to the contents of the file. I would suggest that as the scanning point you raise is something I had no control over my seeking a more elegant solution to what I wish to do is still valid to apply to the file to which I have to work on.
