    Good afternoon all,

I have two near identical Dell Machines (only difference one has a 512 ssd c: drive and the other has a 256 ssd c: drive plus a 1tb d: drive (sata) for programs and data. Both machines are currently running 22h2 but I’m looking to update to 23h2 very shortly.

Windows update is offering a patch with identical patch number but one appears to be the upgrade to 23h2 whereas the other machine with same patch number but it’s showing as a cumulative update (not an upgrade).

    My PC = 2024-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5039212); Security Updates; KB5039212; 6/11/2024; 127.96 GB; Hidden

    Partners PC = Windows 11, version 23H2; Upgrades; KB5039212; 6/11/2024; 134.21 GB; Hidden

Both patches link to the same support URL via WUMgr

Are they both pointing to the same patch or are they different (one an update and one an upgrade)? Description and file size is slightly different but KB number and release date both the same.

Thanks  in advance for any advice offered.

    Kind regards

    Pete

Looks like the update is for machines with WIN11 22H2 or 23H2.

      From Susan’s Master Patch List

      “Version 22H2/23H2 5039212”

      See link below.

22H2 and 23H2 patches are the same code base with ever so slight differences based on the version you are on thus Microsoft uses the same KB number.  Are you positive the partner’s PC isn’t already on 23H2?

        Hi Susan,

        Thanks for your reply 🙂

Both PC’s are on 22h2 (I’ve just rechecked).

        My PC
        Edition Windows 11 Home
        Version 22H2
        Installed on ‎15/‎01/‎2023
        OS build 22621.3447
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22688.1000.0

        My partners PC

        Edition    Windows 11 Home
        Version    22H2
        Installed on    ‎10/‎01/‎2023
        OS build    22621.3155
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22684.1000.0

Only difference I can see is a slightly different build # (22621.3447 and 22621.3155). Could the build number be the reason as to why one PC is being offered the 23h2 upgrade whereas the other PC is not?

        Kind regards

One is on the April release the other on the February release.  My guess is there is a Servicing stack update nuance that is triggering the difference.

Neither PC is up to date

          Win11 22H2 Build 22621.3447 is the 2024-04 April update
          Win11 22H2 Build 22621.3155 is the 2024-02 February 2024 update

Could the build number be the reason as to why one PC is being offered the 23h2 upgrade whereas the other PC is not?

This may be because one PC’s hardware meets the qualifications fo 23H2, and the other one doesn’t.
