Thanks, Susan, truly wonderful! We like Dolly around here. 🙂

I always like to share this one below, it’s my favorite secular Christmas tune:

The German bridge is a bit hard to translate; it’s very idiomatic, and I wouldn’t trust anyone not a poet to do it right; my German is almost gone, but I can get the gist from what I remember and Google Translate…(ow.)

In any case, all of us, be well and be safe, and have a good Christmas as possible!

Thanks for that. I’ve always like Dolly Parton and the lyrics had me crying…GOOD tears.

      EYE TEST

I’ve just been to the optometrist for my annual eye test.
The optometrist put a special video device on my face and asked, “What can you see?”
“I see empty airports, empty football grounds and largely-empty streets,” I replied.
      “Anything else?” asked the optometrist.
I replied, “Yes, I see closed theatres, closed pubs and closed restaurants.”
“That’s perfect,” said the optometrist, “you’ve got 2020 vision!”

On this night of all nights to be given a chance to hear this woman sing is a gift. Dolly Parton, to me, is one of the truly great ones we are fortunate to have living among us; she is a national treasure for her songs, for how she sings them, for her smile, for her many good deeds, for her inspiring life. She is one of the most loved of popular singers; she has won the hearts of multitudes, in many lands.

So, Susan, thank you for that. And a most Merry Christmas to you and those you care for. And to all people of good will, Peace and Joy.

I leave you here this small fragment of a poem on the theme of joy, and on Dolly’s message of hope for reconciliation and unity through something greater than us:

Joy! A spark of fire from heaven,
      Daughter from Elysium,
Drunk with fire we dare to enter,
      Holy One, inside your shrine.
      Your magic power binds together,
What we by custom wrench apart,
All men will emerge as brothers,
Where you rest your gentle wings.

      …..

      Be embraced, all you millions,
Share this kiss with all the world!
      Way above the stars, brothers,
There must live a loving father.
Do you kneel down low, you millions?
Do you sense your maker, world?
Search for him above the stars,
Beyond the stars must dwell him.

Have a listen to the song here ..

The video linked to in Susan’s post is NOT available outside the US.

(For me in Belgium, YouTube says it’s unavailable.)
(But then I could watch the video through a VPN-server located in the US.)

If you’re outside the US and have no VPN, you can find the exact same videoclip here:

      (This works fine in Belgium.)

You’re going to knock this out of the park.Tthere is no one more dedicated to community and Woody could not have chosen a better successor.
