How can I keep the Vista Home Premium Firewall turned off? I have ZoneAlarm. Every time I boot up the computer the Windows Firewall is turned back on. I have it disabled in ZoneAlarm. I disable it through the control panel but it refuses to stay off.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!!

When you install ZA it should take care of interaction with the Windows Firewall. If things operate as they were in XP the Windows Firewall runs through a certain spot in the boot process so you are protected before ZA is loaded and running. Then ZA takes over. Unless you have problems you should assume it is working correctyl and not pay attention to the Windows Firewall status.

Click on START, then CONTROL PANEL. There you will find the icon for WINDOWS FIREWALL. DOUBLE CLICK it and then you will see how to turn it off……G L

Thanks, Joe. Nearly every time I turn on the computer I get that annoying message from Vista that there’s a “security” problem with my firewall. Argh! So annoying.

Jimbo, I have turned the firewall off in the control panel numerous times. It just does not stick. Sure didn’t have this problem with XP.

We get no warning message and we are running Zone Alarm on one laptop. That said, it is the free version, But we have never tried turning it off as ZA has always done it. The Vista firewall needs to be running during startup to protect the machine until the third party firewall gets going.

Dave, I am also running the free version of ZA. It never occurred to me that the Vista firewall actually needs to run during startup. Actually the message I get is a “Security Alert.”

          Thanks.

Yes, at that moment in time the Vista fire wall is turned off just before ZA gets started. Some times the warning will flash and then disappear as ZA is started.
