I don’t know if PPT has a setting, but since Office and IE seem intertwined, does it help to change the setting in Internet Explorer:

Tools>Internet Options…>Advanced>Browsing>Underline Links to something other than “Always”?

        It didn’t work.

        thanks anyway

If you select text and set a hyperlink, the text will be underlined.

If you select the textbox itself and set a hyperlink, the text won’t be underlined.

Does that do the trick for you?

      sort of…

      the alternatives are:

      1. have just one word or letter (or special additional character) carrying the link
      2. insert an object (visible or not) with the attached link or bookmark

      good! Thank you

Thank you! Adding a hidden object was a great idea. I’m in the middle of creating the Org Chart from Hades. I’m creating links that allow drill-down through the PP presentation, but I’m having to use text boxes and connectors instead of the standard pre-formatted Org Chart that comes with PP.

One set of data is in boxes with a blue background and white letters, and the subordinates are in a light blue box with black letters. Using your idea, what I’ve done is set my format for hyperlinks to be black both before and after they are selected so I can set normal hyperlinks in the subordinate boxes, but I added blank boxes over the manager’s names (over the white text on the blue background) so that when they click the name, they get moved to the manager’s slide. That way I can keep the font the same and have hyperlinks with two different colors.

Try Tools… Autocorrect Options…. Autoformat as you type…. Uncheck “Internet and network paths with hyperlinks”.
It does eliminate the hyperlinking capability, but also does away with the blue underlining.

It will not underline an URL interactively if I type it.

But if I insert a link or bookmark , it will underline it and turn to the color scheme color assigned to hyperlinks

        Thanks
