Trouble started when I changed security on a new router from WPA2 to WPA3. Wpa 3 destroyed my Roku connection as well as the other wireless stuff in the house. I disabled WPA3 back to WPA2. All my wireless stuff now works in the house including phone, thermostats, Roku., etc.

The problem is my laptop. I manually have to add in the security key for the wireless network that the laptop accepts, I connect, it asks if I want to stay connected and I answer affirmatively. The laptop then connects and then disconnects at varying intervals. Sometime I can restart and it stays connected and other times it doesn’t. I ran the windows diagnostics and it tells me the wireless security types do not match. As far as I can see WPA2 is there. The other error message is that my network cable is not properly plugged in of broken. I don’t have a network cable attached to this laptop. Can someone give me a hand. I don’t know where else to look….BTW Windows 11 23H2, TP-link AX11000. What’s got me baffled is all the other wireless stuff in the house is working. Thanks

Have you removed the wireless connection on the laptop before attempting to connect? (Forget connection.)

      cheers, Paul

This sounds to me like corruption of your laptop’s network stack. The easiest method is just to reset it.

This will remove and reinstall all your network devices, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and VPN adapters. It will also reset your network-related settings, such as IP address, DNS, firewall, proxy, and VPN configurations. Most importantly, it will remove saved Wi-Fi connections, which is where I suspect the actual corruption is.

      1.  Click on Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Status.

      2. At the bottom of the right-hand pane, click on Reset Network.

      3. Click on Reset Now.

      4. Confirm the reset of the network settings and wait while the device restarts.

After rebooting you will need to reconnect to WiFi by re-entering the SSID/password combo for your router. Windows will also ask you whether ‘this computer should be detected on the network’, i.e. public or private network… choose private.

(Whilst a network reset is a bit over the top for what is very probably just a corrupt saved WiFi profile, it’s also the most effective at re-establishing appropriate encryption bindings if there’s been a problem elsewhere.)

      Hope this helps…

        1. Click on Start> Settings> Network and Internet> Status.

I think that is for Win10. For Win11:

        reset

Thanks for all your help. The issue is fixed.

I looked in the network properties box. Somehow the last two characters in my password were missing, but that’s the only place that showed an incorrect password. Windows gave me those messages about wireless security doesn’t match or my network cable is broken, but nothing about a password??

I “forgot” the network, typed in the password and all is now working after hours of trying to figure this out. I haven’t a clue how this happened.

Thank you, @PL1… I missed that it was Windows 11 completely.
