I just received an e-mail, looked completely legitimate, like it was the next release of Woody’s Windows Watch – when I opened it, McAfee alerted me that the attachment to the file contained a trojan. Any ideas what’s going on? I’ve deleted the e-mail…thought I should warn somebody or at least check it out.

Woody doesn’t send attachments with his newsletters. If you recieved it with an attachment you shouldn’t have opened it. Fortunately, you have MacAfee paying attention for you. I’m sure Woody and all of us loungers would have liked to have had more details on that little piece of business. Unfortunate that you deleted it. Did you also empty your deleted items folder ??? If not, perhaps one of the Moderators might want you to send a copy somewhere to have it checked out. I’m sure Woody doesn’t want his name associated with some internet trojan in his newsletters !!!

We get a lot of novice users here in the Lounge and they often do the strangest things and then wonder why they are having problems. And of course, they didn’t do anything to cause them. With all the phishing and spoofing going on these days I assumed (and that was my error) that you were a relative “newbie” and had opened what you assumed (there’s that word again) was Woody’s news letter and was in fact an infected spoof with a loaded attachment that you subsequently opened and set off your AV software. My choice of words in my reply was, shall we say, less than ideal. 
I was insulting and you have every right to be upset by my response. That’s one of the reasons we have the excellent Mods, like Hans, to inform us about things like Claude’s post and to smooth over the rough spots caused by heavy handed oafs like myself. You were correct to post your concerns here and I should have been more receptive to your concerns and less concerned about Woody’s rep. Again, my apologies.
