I have tried to do a Dec 2022 and Jan 2023 Windows Security Monthly Quality Rollup Update both through Windows Update as well as downloading and running the file named “windows8.1-kb5022352-x64_d625561eda52f6d1f768dc444b817af0650ce81f.msu”. They all fail with error code 800F0922. I have “BIOS Mode = UEFI” and “Secure Boot State = Off” in my BIOS. I do not have a folder named “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge”. I have just added “\Macromedia\Flash” folders to “c:\Windows\System32” and “c:\Windows\SysWOW64”. I will try the update again now.

How do I get my computer to properly update? Thank you.

No space in the system reserved partition?
See the bottom of this thread.

      Have you run
      sfc /scannow
      and
      dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

As always, make an image backup before you perform the update.

      cheers, Paul

Error code 800F0922 typically indicates that there is a problem with the Windows Update service or the update files themselves. I think, to troubleshoot the issue, you can try the following steps:

      1. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: This tool can automatically detect and fix common problems with Windows Update.
      2. Clear the Windows Update cache: Press the Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin). Type the following command and press Enter: “net stop wuauserv” and “net stop cryptsvc” and “net stop bits” and “net stop msiserver” and “net stop appidsvc” and “net stop clussvc” and “net stop wudfsvc” and “net stop dosvc” and “net stop wcncsvc” and “net stop wbemess”. Then navigate to the following folders and delete all the files and folders inside: “C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution” and “C:\Windows\Temp”.
      3. Disable antivirus software temporarily: Some antivirus software can interfere with the Windows Update process. Try disabling it temporarily and see if that helps.
      4. Run the update manually: You can download the update file from the Microsoft Update Catalog and run it manually.
      5. Check for malware: Make sure that your computer is free of malware or viruses that might be interfering with the update process.
      6. Run the System File Checker: This tool scans the system for missing or corrupted files and repairs them if found.
      7. Try to update with the Media Creation Tool: Create a bootable USB or DVD, boot from it and follow the instructions on the screen.

If none of these steps work, you might need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

You are not alone. Have exact same problem so guessing something messed up in the update file. Nice way to say goodbye to 8.1.

This is what made it work – running the “windows8.1-kb5022352-x64_d625561eda52f6d1f768dc444b817af0650ce81f.msu” file manually last night, then doing Update – Shutting Down, then this morning turning on the computer as normal procedure:

      I added “\Macromedia\Flash” folders to “c:\Windows\System32” and “c:\Windows\SysWOW64”.

      Thanks to all for suggestions.

I heard of others having the issue as well. It seems MS left a nice present for these users of Windows 8.1 before they ended support for it. Good luck.
