Freeware program to allow the descriptions on your desktop to be transparent and you can set the color of the text to suit your needs. http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000SYB,.html

I have used it on Win95, Win98 and WinNT with NO problems of any kind.

      Hi Ed
I have used Desk Color (which is the download you are recommending) for several years. Good innit?
It also works perfectly well in Windows 2000.

btw, Ed and Dave, if you want to make a long link into a short (but still live) description, you could use the Tag Panel link option 2, which has the syntax :

      url=link]Description[/url]

I knew, but I was running on about 3 hours sleep in 48 hours when I posted the response. While I was waiting for some mainframe processes to finish, I decided to visit the Lounge and see what was happening. Mainframe applications pick the worst times to crash and with the most disastrous results that require more than a couple of hours of recovery time!

I’m not sure which one it was, but try:

Those look neat but I can’t copy them to my `check these out’ list.

…what’s a ‘check these out list’?
They downloaded fine from the URLs Leif gave. I installed ’em and tested them under XP. They did not work – in that they did not do what was required. (One of them made the DT icons disappear, but XP does that anyway).

              Cheers

I keep a spreadsheet file open and when someone posts an interesting url I copy it to a line add a brief description and save it to go check it out later. I don’t want to interrupt my lounge time. I would never get through all the posts if I ran off to look at every link.

BTW I like your site too. You and LadyWolf have the best home pages. Both very helpful ones. Suggest anyone who hasn’t taken a look at them should add them to their “check it out list”

          Hi
Get DeskColor at #43 from my web site (click my sig below). Note it does not work properly with XP, though. None of those given by Leif is actually DeskColor, and I’ve tested them also with XP and they don’t seem to do anything either. This was not a very thorough testing, so if anyone gets any of them to work under XP, do tell.

          Rgds

              Hi folks
Many thanks for those kind words.
Sorry about the DeskColor file. I downloaded and installed it under XP on Saturday with no problem – except that it won’t actually do anything. Have you tried any of the utilities at the links Leif gave?
So that’s a ‘check this out’ list. Sounds like a fine idea.

              Cheers
