We are cleaning out our storage area. In addition to getting rid of hundreds of books I have discovered boxes of movies on video tape.
We also discovered a working video tape player to connect to one of our standby Windows 10 Pro workstations.
Looking for recommendations on how to transfer the tapes to the computer including software options.
I would first hook up the VCR to a TV set and see if the tapes are still good.
If the tapes are good, then the process is really easy. You will need two things:
1) USB video capture dongle (adapter for the RCA connectors of the VCR to the USB connection on the PC). Get one for 3.0 USB. These are cheap: here is just one example:

2) Next you will need software that captures the video and converts to the format you want. I can’t recommend any current software as I converted my VHS tapes to digital videos long ago on a different PC and used the software that came with the video card I had on that PC (the video card had the RCA connectors so I didn’t need a conversion dongle). Maybe someone else can recommend a software.
