    Hi

I have the following Word document.

When I open up the document it displays the heading numerbering as being track changed (heading 2). If I want to accept this change it doesnt allow me in the Accept Change menu. It only displays as Accept all Changes in the document which I dont want to do.
Also if I turn off track changes view via the Track Changes switch in the Task pane. Then when I turn back Track changes view – the heading that displays the lnumber as track change views as not having been tracked at all? Then if I close the Word document and then reopen the numbered paragraph will again view as tracked

    any ideas?

Im not sure what’s happening there. To have a little finer control over accepting and rejecting changes, you can add a button for the old dialog to the Reviewing toolbar. It’s available from Tools>Customize…, Commands tab.

I guess this is Auto-numbering? Then it wouldn’t make sense to “accept” the change, since the numbering is done automatically anyway. The number might have changed due to insertions further up, but there’s nothing to change, really.

        cheers Klaus

I have constant issues with Track Changes. Many times when I insert a glossary entry [autotext] it appears as a change in track changes. You can get rid of this by turning off View/Markup, but it is still there as a change. I’ve actually created a toolbar button that automatically Accepts All Changes.

If anyone has a better way of stopping this annoying habit., I’d love to know it.

          Best,
          Michael

Inserting an AutoText entry is a big change. smile To stop tracking all changes, you can double-click the little TRK indicator on the status bar, or use whatever the long way is… if you want to track all changes except AutoText insertion, you might have to write a couple of macros for that (there are multiple ways to insert autotext).

              thanks for that.

I ended up doing a manual fix.
I turned track changes off. cleaned up all the heading style formatting. eg they were using a mixture of sub-heading 3 & heading 3 . For the Heading 2 which was the style of the auto-numbering was being tracked & restarted at 1. I made this heading all Normal style throughout the doc. Then reapplied Heading 2.

it was a real manual fix but worked in the end.
              many thanks Diana
